All schools in England operate under a National Curriculum. It’s important to understand how your subject fits within the UK Curriculum as you begin to adapt to teaching in England.
All teachers in secondary schools will need to be able to teach up to main secondary school exam standard General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE). These exams are taken by all secondary students at age 16.
Those who wish to, may continue to Advanced Level Study (A-Levels) which are taken at 18 years of age, this is the highest level of study in the English school system. Some schools teach students up to the ages of 18, while others do not have students beyond the age of 16, in these cases students continue their studies at a local college.
